ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT

 

The General Secretariat directs administrative, human and financial resources and activities of the Union, including the implementation of the provisions of the administrative regulations on operational questions, the dissemination of information on telecommunication/ICT matters for operational and other purposes, and the provision of legal advice to the whole of the Union.  The General Secretariat coordinates the implementation of the Strategic Plan, monitors the telecommunication/ICT environment and recommends as needed action relating to the Union’s future policies and strategy.  The General Secretariat ensures inter-sectoral coordination and cooperation to advance a whole of ITU approach (One-ITU) in headquarters and the field. The General Secretariat provides logistical and information technology support to the Union’s activities including conferences and global forums; the coordination of the work of the Union with the United Nations system, and other international organizations; and the engagement of the Member States, Sector Members, and Academia. The General Secretariat manages corporate governance, and strategic communications and relations with the media, different stakeholder groups as well as the general public. 

TERMS OF REFERENCE

 

Within the context of the Partner2Connect (P2C) Digital Coalition, ITU is looking for a dynamic intern willing to join the P2C Secretariat, responsible to assist the overall communication activities of the Partner2Connect Digital Coalition. The Partner2Connect Digital Coalition is a multi stakeholder alliance launched by ITU in close cooperation with the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology, and in line with the UN Secretary-General’s Roadmap for Digital Cooperation, to foster meaningful connectivity and digital transformation globally. The intern will:


· Prepare (design, write, produce) documentation and marketing materials to promote the Partner2Connect Digital Coalition.

· Assist the Secretariat with the overall activities related to the engagement of the P2C community.

· Assist in the selection of the tools and methods to best engage the members of the P2C community.

· Produce analysis, statistics, evaluation charts and status reports related to the P2C Community.

· Assist the Secretariat in pledge mobilization efforts. 

· Contribute to the maintenance of the P2C website.

· Assist in the organization and development of periodic and ad-hoc events.

· Assist in the development and maintenance of a database containing information of the community members.

· Support other activities of the P2C Secretariat as requested.

COMPETENCIES

 

The ideal candidate should be highly organized, concerned with accuracy and quality of information, flexible, and able to keep a positive attitude under pressure. Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, social media platforms and ability to quickly learn new software applications are required. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work well individually and, in a team, and in a multicultural environment.

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED

 

Education: University degree or completing a university degree in the field of the post or having completed studies since less than 6 months.

 

Experience: No working experience is required. Experience in communications, community management, social media promotions, conducting research and preparing publications will be valued. Advanced use of IT tools and interest for the ICT sector will be valued as well during the selection process. Previous experience with database management, content creation and promotion and experience with event management would also be positively valued.

 

Languages: Advanced level of English. Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) would be an advantage.

Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short term or a Fixed term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions. 


This internship position does not require the candidate to be physically present and can be done remotely.
