ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT

 

The Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) fulfills the objectives of the Union relating to telecommunication standardization, by providing secretariat support to groups studying technical, operating and tariff questions and facilitating the adoption of Recommendations in these areas with a view to standardizing telecommunications and information technology on a global basis. In order to achieve these objectives, the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau works in accordance with the instructions of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assemblies (WTSA), Telecommunication Standardization Study Groups and the Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group. TSB, headed by an elected Director, provides the technical, administrative and logistic support for the assemblies and for the meetings of the groups mentioned.

 

Within the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB), the Telecommunication Standardization Policy Department (TSP) is responsible for the policies guiding ITU-T and the maintenance of its relevant position in the global standardization arena. It oversees the implementation of the WTSA Action Plan, and is responsible for identifying emerging technologies and analysing technology trends in order to advise membership on emerging standardization developments. The Department is also responsible for the bureau's communication, human resources, finance, membership functions, academic initiatives and the ITU Journal, a periodical dedicated to research topics in telecommunication and ICTs.

AI for Good, an initiative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is at the forefront of using artificial intelligence to address global challenges, from climate action to health and education. By bringing together leading innovators, policymakers, and researchers, AI for Good aims to leverage AI to achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

TERMS OF REFERENCE

 

We are seeking a creative and motivated Digital Communication Intern to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain diverse experience in an international environment, contributing to a wide range of communication activities that enhance awareness, engagement, and impact of AI for Good.

 

The Digital Communication Intern will assist the AI for Good team across various communication and outreach activities, including:

 

  • Content Creation and Curation: Develop and schedule engaging content for AI for Good’s social media platforms, website, and newsletters. This includes posts, stories, and updates that highlight initiatives, events (like the AI for Good Global Summit 2025), and key messages.
  • Campaign and Event Promotion: Assist in the planning, execution, and promotion of social media campaigns and events. This includes creating communication materials, visual promotions, and supporting outreach efforts for key initiatives such as the AI for Good Global Summit 2025.
  • Analytics and Reporting: Monitor and analyze social media metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and content.
  • Community Engagement: Help manage and engage with AI for Good’s online community by responding to comments, messages, and inquiries, fostering a positive, inclusive environment, and supporting ongoing community growth.
  • Visual Communication Support: Help design graphics, infographics, and visual materials to support digital communication and campaign efforts.
  • Media Outreach: Support outreach efforts and conduct research to identify potential media partnership opportunities, helping to expand AI for Good’s media network.

COMPETENCIES

 

Passion for storytelling, social media, and digital communication, with strong writing skills and attention to detail. 

Interest in visual communication and graphic design, with experience using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite. 

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. 

Demonstrates an interest in artificial intelligence and its potential to drive positive societal impact. 

Creative thinker with a proactive attitude, willing to take initiative and contribute new ideas. 

Thrives in a dynamic, multicultural, and international work environment. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED

 

Education: Currently pursuing or has recently completed studies in communication, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field. 

 

Experience: No work experience required.

 

Languages: English at advance level. Working knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish), with French being an asset.

Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short-term or a Fixed-term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.
