ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT

The Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) fulfills the objectives of the Union relating to telecommunication standardization, by providing secretariat support to groups studying technical, operating and tariff questions and facilitating the adoption of Recommendations in these areas with a view to standardizing telecommunications and information technology on a global basis. In order to achieve these objectives, the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau works in accordance with the instructions of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assemblies (WTSA), Telecommunication Standardization Study Groups and the Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group. TSB, headed by an elected Director, provides the technical, administrative and logistic support for the assemblies and for the meetings of the groups mentioned.

Within the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB), the Strategic Engagement Department (SED) is responsible with leading the Bureau's community engagement, marketing, and communications efforts, including pioneering “emerging technologies” initiatives like the annual AI for Good Global Summit, and utilizing innovative tactics for membership recruitment and business development to establish ITU-T as an agile, forward-looking, and innovative standardization platform. The Department is also responsible for the Bureau's, academic initiatives and the ITU Journal, a periodical dedicated to research topics in telecommunication and ICT.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

AI for Good, an initiative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is at the forefront of using artificial intelligence to address global challenges, from climate action to health and education. By bringing together leading innovators, policymakers, and researchers, AI for Good aims to leverage AI to achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

TERMS OF REFERENCE


We are seeking a talented and creative Innovation Factory Communication Intern to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain diverse experience in an international environment, contributing to a wide range of communication activities that enhance awareness, engagement, and impact of AI for Good Innovation Factory, our programme on building AI startups for global impact.


Activities:
Under the supervision of the AI and Robotics Programme Officer supporting the ITU’s AI for Good team, the intern will actively participate in and assist in various communication and outreach activities, including:

  • Content Creation and Curation: Assist in developing engaging content for our social media platforms, website. This includes writing articles, interview startups, and social media copy that align with AI for Good Innovation Factory’s mission and objectives.
  • Visual Communication Support: Help design graphics, banners, presentation, infographics, and visual materials to support digital communication efforts for Innovation Factory.
  • Event Promotion: Assist in promoting key initiatives and events, such as the AI for Good Global Summit 2025, by developing communication materials, assisting in social media campaigns and outreach efforts.
  • Administrative and Logistical Support: Provide administrative support for communication activities, such as managing content calendars and assisting in the planning and execution of communication related activities for the event.

COMPETENCIES

 

  • Passion for storytelling, social media, and digital communication, with strong writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Interest in visual communication and graphic design, with experience using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates an interest in artificial intelligence and its potential to drive positive societal impact.
  • Creative thinker with a proactive attitude, willing to take initiative and contribute new ideas.

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED

 

Education:

Currently pursuing or has recently completed studies in marketing, communication, business administration, international relations, or a related field.

 

Experience: 

No work experience is required.

 

Language required:

  • Advanced level of English.
  • Desirable: Working knowledge of another UN language, with excellent knowledge of written and spoken French being an asset.

Unpaid Internship.

accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.
