The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) is responsible for the organization and coordination of the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) of the Union which deals mainly with ICT-focused development policies, strategies and programmes, as well as technical cooperation activities, to promote digital inclusion and drive digital transformation at community, country and regional levels. To effectively and efficiently serve the needs of ITU members, BDT is organized into four functional areas:

  • Office of the Deputy to the Director and Field Operations Coordination Department
  • Partnerships for Digital Development Department
  • Digital Networks & Society Department
  • Digital Knowledge Hub Department

The office of the Deputy to the Director and Field Operations Coordination Department is responsible for advising and supporting the Director on the direction and management of the Bureau. It is also responsible for leading all matters related to personnel, strategic, financial and operational planning and reporting processes. The department oversees the work of the Regional Offices, ensuring proper delegation of authority and accountability of the Regional Offices. This department coordinates the holding of BDT conferences and events, monitors the implementation of decisions emanating from the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC), the Telecommunication Development Advisory Group (TDAG) or Council, and cooperates closely with the other Sectors of the Union and the General Secretariat on matters of relevance to BDT and the overall work of the Union. BDT Regional Directors report to this department.


Arab Innovation & Entrepreneurship Network (AIEN) is an NGO affiliated with the ITU that aims to develop and share cross expertise between business incubator managers and incubation stakeholders in the Arab region. Unifying efforts of the ecosystems in the fields of Science and Technology and applying the best suitable and localized practices in the Arab region.
This project is one of few projects that was approved by ITU, AIEN, and the KACST who have the current General Secretariat office as well as the presidency.

AIEN is a network based on experienced members within incubators at the Arab World level that aims to address all challenges and concerns of members in all Arab Countries.

AIEN is a platform of communication, cooperation, and knowledge sharing among its members, the organizational structure for this Platform defines the platform's structural components and how they interact internally and with external bodies especially the innovation ecosystem in the Arab countries.
AIEN started the development of its online presence by creating a creative and inspiring website that reflects the image and professionalism. The major components of this website are a CMS that allows easy content management, a mobile-enabled interface both in Android and IoS, blogs, and members sections that includes functional activities such as but not limited to : joining forms, knowledge exchange, members staff information exchange, information sharing, experiences, and activities, etc.


Under the supervision of the ITU Arab Regional Office, in coordination with KACST and the Operations Officer, and Based on existing documents and information, the intern will provide the following:

• Support the Project manager in communications, visibility, and knowledge management within AIEN members and to external audiences.
• Assist the development, implementation, and monitoring of a communication and visibility plan to facilitate better understanding among partners and stakeholders (internal and external).
• Support update of AIEN web site with relevant material, including success stories, program, updates.
• Collaborate with ITU Communications Department for use of standardized tools, participation in Communications Focal Point meetings, etc.
• Other duties as needed.

• Take meeting minutes and summarize action plans, before validation by line manager.
• Work closely with relevant AIEN members to improve information management processes.
• Ensure to maintain and update the program documentation archiving system in collaboration with other departments.
• Support program staff in organizing and managing workshops or pieces of training as required.
• Other duties as needed.


• Some experiences in reporting and program experience in the INGO/Innovation / entrepreneurship field is a plus.
• Experience in communication, reporting, documentation, publication in relation to the INGO/humanitarian sector is desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, tasks efficiently.
• Communication skills in designing communication and outreach materials for organizations is a plus.


University degree in Business administration, communications, marketing, or a related field OR education from a reputed college of advanced education with a diploma of equivalent standard to that in one of the fields above.

No work experience required.

Working knowledge of English, the knowledge of French and Arabic would be an advantage.



Unpaid Internship


Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short-term or a Fixed-term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.

This internship will be carried out remotely.
